Inlay/Onlay

A dental inlay or onlay is a type of restorative dental treatment used to repair a tooth that has moderate decay or damage where a crown is not required. It’s custom-made to fit into the cavity of a tooth and is typically made from materials such as porcelain, ceramics or metal oxide. This option is great for patients who have tooth damage that is too extensive for a filling, but not extensive enough for a crown.

The Process

  • We start by gathering information, including any necessary scans or X-rays, to determine if you need an inlay or onlay. From there, we create a personalized treatment plan just for you.
  • After scanning the tooth or teeth in question, we design the inlay or onlay to fit your mouth precisely and prepare the area for placement.
  • Once ready, we place the inlay or onlay to check the fit, color, and function—making sure everything feels right—before permanently bonding it to your tooth.
